Jon Beiler

I have been a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 1976. Like many of my colleagues, I am the student of a former Philadelphia Orchestra member. My first violin teacher, from the age of eight until I left for college, was Louis Gesensway, himself a member of the Orchestra from 1926 to 1971.
Even before I joined the Philadelphia Orchestra, I partook of some of our illustrious history when I played under the late Leopold Stokowski, who received an honorary degree at Yale University while I was concertmaster of the undergraduate orchestra there.
I was hired by Eugene Ormandy, and I have played here under the tenures of Riccardo Muti, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Charles Dutoit, and Christoph Eschenbach. I am enjoying the opportunity of performing under the baton of our dynamic new Music Director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
I am proud to have been part of the great tradition of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and to my ears, the Orchestra sounds better than at any time since I have been here.
